Hello, My name is Greg Groesch and I have been in the graphic design business since 1982. I graduated from St. Louis Community College with an Associates Degree in Communication and Graphic Design. I worked with a number of ad agencies throughout the St. Louis area and started my art career as a paste-up artist in 1982 doing layouts for ad agencies for anything that needed to be printed, things like event tickets, drawing of a new trachea tube, to flyers and billboards for realtors. During this time there were a lot of artists and a lot of agencies popping up and closing every month. Along with that, we artists were always looking for new work. In the mean time you usually found us working in restaurants tending bar, waiting tables etc. In the summer of 1997, I was in a car accident and shattered my knee and it took three to four years to learn how to walk again. Afterward I had a few odd jobs but wanted to get back into what I had a passion for, which is art & graphic design.
At this time everything was moving into the computer programs which I didn’t have a clue about, so I went back to school in 2003. I went to Missouri College and graduated with another Associates Degree in Computer Science/Graphic Design. At the time of graduation the school was coming out with a new program, Digital Animation, which was a bachelors degree, so I decided to stay in school and pursue this.
Why do I do what I do?
I love to draw and the great thing about this job is that every job I do is different. They all have their own special problems to solve.
In 2009 started to freelance where I found most of my work was won in competing against other artists. Clients would give a description of what they wanted & you submit your work.
I did this till 2016 after having a knee replacement three years prior on that shattered knee from years ago. We’ll it got infected with MERSA. After a number of operations to clean it, I still ended up having the leg amputated.
Now, since 2020 I started painting again which is what I wanted to do all along. It seems to be a long journey to get to where I wanted but I learned a lot, for example all the different ways to draw & paint hands on but all the ways they were printed & more. Also hands on.
Don’t think I would change a thing.
